Is a form of relief created by statute which allows a foreign national to reside in the United States and prevent their removal to a country where he or she fears persecution or harm. Under our current law if someone escapes their country due to a fear of persecution they can apply for asylum.  Once someone is granted asylum, they become an asylee and can legally reside in the United States, after one year they become eligible to apply for lawful permanent residence.
